Born in Rakvere, Estonia
Born on July 28, 1908 in Rakvere, Estonia. Studied at the Art Academy Pallas in Tartu, Estonia (1926-29) under A.Vabbe, graduating in 1929 as an art teacher. Taught at Rakvere Girls Zeeh Commercial High School (1931-36), and at Augsburg Estonian High School (1945-48). Own studio in Caracas, Venezuela. Exhibited in many exhibitions since 1926 in Tartu and Tallinn, Augsburg, Geislingen, Kempten, Munich, at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas (1950-51) and in Toronto (1954-90).
Founding member of EKKT. Twice elected President (1958-60) and (1969-90) or a total of 25 years. Has exhibited in the following countries: Estonia, Germany, Belgium, Venezuela, USA, Sweden, Australia and Canada ( Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Sudbury, Alliston, Beeton, Tottenham, Bolton, North York).
Awarded first prize for organizing First Estonian World Festival Art Exhibition in Toronto (1972), Volunteer Service Award from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture in Ontario (1987), Order of Merit from Estonian Central Council Toronto (1988) Achievement Award from the Estonian Federation in Canada (1990).
Helped co-ordinate EKKT’s juried art exhibition at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery in the Columbus Centre in Toronto celebrating the 40thAnniversary of Canadian citizenship (1987). Also co-ordinated Three Generation Exhibition: Järves & Vomms at the Northern District Library Stairwell Gallery, in Toronto. Interviewed by Tim Sheehy for CFTO News on May 29, 1987.
Many reviews, articles, catalogues, magazines, and files in many countries. In Toronto appeared in Globe & Mail (K. Kritzwiser, July 1972 and May 1987), Meie Elu, Vaba Eestlane, Toronto Star (Stasia Evasuk, February 27, 1986 and Karen Shopsowitz, May 6, 1987).
Exhibited at EKKT Juried Art Exhibition at Samuel J. Zacks Gallery, York University in 1990. Exhibited at Esto’92 Juried Exhibition in New York; at the EKKT 40thAnniversary Juried Exhibition in 1996; at the “August Vomm & Family” exhibition at A.H. Tammsaare Museum in Tallinn, Estonia, in 1996 to commemorate the 90thbirthday of her husband, professor of sculpture, August Vomm. Took part in EKKT’s group exhibition at the Kastellanimaja Gallery in Tallinn, Estonia, 1996, which was part of Esto’96 World Festival. Exhibited at EKKT’s Juried show, titled “Canada” in 1997. In 1998 exhibited at the Art Exhibition by EKKT to celebrate the 80thanniversary of the Independence of Estonia. In August 1998 (at 90 years of age), she traveled alone to Estonia to attend the Opening at Rakvere Museum of the “Mölder’s & Vomm’s Family Exhibition”, which went on tour to Narva Art Gallery and Viljandi Art Hall. Has exhibited in all EKKT art exhibitions since 1956. Was EKKT’s Honorary Member.
Her painting, “The Last Waltz” is at the Canadian Embassy in Tallinn, Estonia. Has works at York University, Estonian National Art Museum (Tallinn), Tartu Art Museum, Rakvere Museum, Estonian House Art Collection (Toronto), in public and private collections in Europe, South America, Canada, USA, China. In many periodicals, magazines, catalogues, EKABL Encyclopedia (Tallinn 1996), video films, books. EKKT 1966, EKKT 1956-1990 and EKKT 1956 -2000. Died in Toronto on January 26, 2005.
